The Friendly Women of Evanston Meetup group came over last night to cook and share from the cookbook and blog Smitten Kitchen by Deb Perelman. I picked the menu and recipes and then the attendees picked the items they wanted to prepare. People showed up about 5:00 and the feasting began!
We started with a wild mushroom tart. You can find a version of it on Sassy Radish . Two women made it. One had trouble with the crust and one did not. Both used a different mixture of mushrooms but both tarts tasted delicious and very similar. One cook declared the filling would be good on anything!
As you can see one used a tart pan and one used a cake pan so the walls were higher.

I cooked large lima beans in the pressure cooker in the morning. The dough for the crust was flaky and tangy using sour cream (or yogurt). It was one of the few recipes I have made were the dough recipe was in excess of what was needed. Now I have another batch of dough to use up – may be some more pot pies?
This is a vegetarian version without the pancetta and made as one large, double batch of pot pie!
Two hazelnut chocolate crepe cakes – pretty impressive! A perfect finale to a fun, food filled evening. Check out the Smitten Kitchen blog for more great recipes.
